Rooftop solar power for mixed-use building

Rooftop solar power for mixed-use building

Rooftop solar power is not only good for the environment. Installing solar power can also reduce your energy bill.

This building project is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which has a very hot and sunny climate – ideal for solar energy applications. Our aim was to optimize the energy use in this mixed-use building with residence and office on the one hand. On the other hand, as much as possible electricity should be supplied by solar power panels installed on the rooftop on the other hand.

Ecothinking consultants developed the complete engineering design for the rooftop solar power plant including layout drawings, technical details, single line diagrams, specifications and estimation of annual electricity generation. We proposed a photovoltaic (PV) power plant with an installed capacity of 10 kWp. The size was optimized according to the available roof area.

Furthermore, a system with solar thermal panels is going to provide hot water in the residence all around the year. Concluding, the solar power plant can provide almost 25% of annual electricity use of the building at a very low cost.
